Our History: On October 1, 1999, the concept of Delta Kappa Delta came to fruition at the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. At that time, Texas A&M University boasted a 40,000 plus student population, with less than five percent categorized as minorities.
B.E.T.I.S., Behind Every True Indian Sister, was created as a grass roots service organization prior to obtaining the Greek letters of Delta Kappa Delta. The National Founding Mothers realized the need to unite, serve, and educate the campus and community. Developing this vision proved to be arduous, but it also began the creation of a bond between thirteen young ladies that will stand the test of time. Through B.E.T.I.S., these women were able to spread and strengthen their ideals to other South Asian women on campus and begin to create a legacy. In addition to serving the community with enthusiasm, the National Founding Mothers emphasized excellence in education, citizenship, culture, and Sisterhood. Delta Kappa Delta Sorority has grown since its inception, stretching its desire to serve to several cities across the United States: including several cities in Texas, the Midwest and East Coast. These women have dedicated their hearts and souls to Service and Sisterhood, exemplifying the concept of “Sisterhood Built through Service”. Through our goal for a brighter future, we begin our work with the purest of hearts - that of a child. In time, we hope that our work will benefit our communities and provide a lasting and prosperous future. Our Purpose: Delta Kappa Delta Sorority, Inc. commits itself to the fostering of a united sisterhood, the development of indomitable spirit, the betterment of the community through humanitarian services, and the education of ourselves and others about the Indian sub-continental culture. Furthermore, we dedicate ourselves to personal, cultural enrichment through the awareness and preservation of our traditions and morals.
Our Mission: Since the concept and inception of Delta Kappa Delta Sorority, each Sister has sincerely dedicated herself to service. We feel that service is the purest way to grow and learn about each other but most importantly give ourselves to our community. Service is the basis of Delta Kappa Delta because we feel that through service, a person can grow spiritually, mentally, and physically. Each hour of service we do provides an opportunity to teach our society about who we are and learn about others. It provides an opportunity to grow and develop our Sisterhood and create a bond with those in the community. Service provides a chance to strengthen our spirit and rejuvenate our society. Each time a Sister does service she walks away with a better knowledge of whom and what she can become.
Though a majority of our service is done together as Sisters, we do encourage and welcome the opportunity to do service with organizations as well as individuals who have the desire to help the community. Our commitment to service is steadfast and we would enjoy the chance to work with others in providing a welcoming shade of service. C.H.I.L.D. Week: DKD Darling Donations is our chapter's signature service event in the fall that benefits our philanthropy, Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness. We would like to bring the community together to wrap donated toys, create fun holiday cards, and prepare scarves to donate. All proceeds of DKD Darling Donations 2015 went towards the TWU Holiday Gift Program. The Holiday Gift Program was established to assist TWU student families with financial needs by providing gifts for their children. For more about our philanthropy, click here.
